
Making Bathroom Heaters That Actually Last
Putting an infrared heater in a bathroom is basically like asking a piece of electronics to live in a sauna. Between the steam, the condensation, and the constant temperature swings, it’s a brutal environment. On paper, we build our heaters to an IP55 rating. That’s a fancy way of saying the casing keeps out dust and can handle a few splashes of water. But let’s be honest: a spec sheet doesn’t stop a heater from dying six months after you bolt it to a damp wall.
Why we put our heaters through “torture tests”
We don’t just trust the blueprints. We take every batch of heaters and throw them into damp-heat aging chambers. We aren’t just spraying them with a hose. We lock them in a hot, humid box for days on end. It’s designed to force moisture into every tiny crack and test every single seal. If a seal is even slightly off, moisture gets in. It hits the electrical contacts, causes oxidation, or just shorts the whole thing out. By simulating years of bathroom steam in a few weeks, we find the leaks on our floor—not in your home.
The battle against dew points
Here is the tricky part: physics. Infrared lamps get incredibly hot. But the second you flick the switch off, the housing cools down fast. In a steamy bathroom, that sudden temperature drop creates a “dew point” inside the unit. Basically, water droplets start forming directly on the wiring and the sockets. To stop this, we use specific gaskets and treated alloys. If we skipped the aging tests, we might miss a gap so small you can’t even see it. In a living room, a gap like that is nothing. In a shower? It’s a death sentence for the heater.
A quick reality check
No seal lasts forever. Over time, gaskets harden and lose their grip. We pick materials that handle that wear and tear as well as possible, but you’ve still got to help the hardware out. Make sure you mount the unit the right way so condensation can actually drain. If you mount it upside down, you’re fighting physics. And trust me, even an IP55 rating can’t save electronics from sitting in a pool of standing water.
