Saving Space in Your Spray Booth with Custom IR Curing

Let’s be honest: standard convection ovens are absolute space hogs. If you’re running a small shop, you can’t afford to have a massive tunnel eating up half your floor.
That’s why we swap those out for custom infrared (IR) curing units. It usually cuts the drying footprint by about 50%. The magic here is that we aren’t wasting time heating up all the air in the room. Instead, the IR lamps send energy straight into the metal and the coating. It’s direct. It’s efficient.
Getting the heat right
If you want a smaller footprint, you need more punch. We use shortwave IR lamps because they actually dig deep into the paint layer.
By cranking up the wattage and voltage in shorter tubes, we concentrate the energy. For you, that means your parts move faster, or you can just shorten the whole conveyor line. It keeps things moving.
The nitty-gritty on the gear
We use quartz glass tubes with special coatings. Why? Because different powders and liquids absorb heat differently. We tune the wavelength to match your specific coating so the base cures perfectly without scorching the surface.
And we don’t do fancy, proprietary plugs that require a PhD to change. We use standard R7s or SK15 connectors. When a lamp eventually burns out, you just pop a new one in. Your line is back up in minutes, not hours.
The reality check
Now, there’s a trade-off. When you pack that much power into a tiny area, things get hot. Really hot.
You have to make sure your ventilation and cooling can keep up. If you don’t pull that heat away from your electronics, you’re going to fry your controllers. It’s a quick fix, but a painful one if you forget it.
The biggest secret, though? The gap. The distance between the lamp and the part has to be spot on. Get it right, and you’ve got a flawless finish. Get it wrong, and you’re looking at a blistered mess.
